A new year and everything starts fresh.  Even when you’re in the middle of something, it’s as though a new perspective is available when a new year begins.

Today as I was beginning my quiet time, I thought how nice it was to begin the day just enjoying God’s presence.  I began to sing a song of praise and as I did the sun broke through the clouds for just a moment.  It was surprising to see the sun because the weather has been cloudy and rainy these past couple of days.  The odd thing was that the day was still very cloudy as though it would rain at any moment.  And yet the sun seemed to be saying “I just want you to know despite how it seems, I’m still here!”  After making that brief appearance the sun disappeared again.  I continued to stare at where it had been and then I smiled as I realized that I had just had a ‘God moment’.

Oh, how like life it is that when our world is sunny and bright and circumstances are working just the way we want them to, we can see God in everything.  But when life becomes gloomy and overcast, when our circumstances are difficult or even fearful, we wonder if God has abandoned us.  Like the sun, at those times, God may send us little reminders of His presence.  It may be through words of encouragement from a friend or though the kindness of a stranger.  We can’t see Him or feel Him during those cloudy days but through those ‘God moments’, He is saying “I just want you to know, despite how it seems, I’m still here!”

Ever faithful, ever present - we come to know suddenly that His word is true, “when you pass through the waters, I will be with you…” (Isaiah 32:2)

The next time circumstances have you wondering “where is God?”  Remember the lesson we learn from nature and get a new perspective.  We may not see the sun behind the clouds but it is there.  And dear friend ~ so is God.
