Title: Is It Raining in Someone's Life?   Send to a Friend
Date: 10/27/2006

Friends,

Welcome to another addition of Women of Wisdom's (W.O.W) e-letter! W.O.W's mission is to encourage you to live the divine purpose for your life! Expect to see a W.O.W. e-letter monthly and be sure to pass them on to your friends.

2nd Edition, Volume 2, Demi #30

It’s been raining a lot this past week in my hometown and I have loved it.  I wondered about that because usually a rainy day can spoil everything – if you have plans.  But that was just it, I didn’t have any plans.  I wasn’t getting on an airplane this week, I didn’t have any outside activities to attend, and frankly my grass really needed the rain and it saved me from having to water it.  I guess if any of those circumstances had been different, I would have been prone to whine about the rain as I normally would if my plans were being interrupted.

I think the same frame of mind is true in spiritual matters as well.  So often we are completely oblivious to the rain that occurs in life if it doesn’t affect us or change our plans.  I mean, if you think about it, it’s raining for those parents that have a child serving in Iraq right now in danger everyday.  It’s raining for those children starving in third world countries with no hope for food.  And it’s raining for those people who have never known the Messiah or are completely unaware that God loves them.  In all these cases, a downpour has occurred and living life uninterrupted and in abundance seems a distant dream.  They long for the sun and are desperate for a brighter day.

But many of us, me included, seem completely unaware of their plight since that ‘rain’ is not affecting us and our plans remain unchanged.  I can’t help but think that God must be saddened as we “splash” off to our worship services but refuse to speak to our next door neighbor who doesn’t know God loves them.  Surely His heart must break as we attend another great religious conference but give no thought about sharing the good news of the gospel with those we work with every day.  Yes many times we are simply enjoying the rain from inside our comfortable life not knowing that someone else is out there in that storm searching for a safe harbor.

As I pondered this, I was reminded of a scripture spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary.  He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught.  The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears, and I have not been rebellious, I have not drawn back.  (Isaiah 50: 4-5)

I think God is opening our ears to hear the rain all around us in the lives of others.  I would encourage each of us, if we hear His voice, to agree not to harden our hearts.

Be Blessed!
